ABSTRACT

Background: The society must routinely practice precautionary measures and precautions to control the spread of Coronavirus, as no vaccines and antiviral treatments are currently available. This study examines non-teaching faculties knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) related to COVID-19, their relationships and identified the pandemics vulnerable population inorder to provide recommendations for policies and behavioural interventions.Materials and methods: A total of 90 non-teaching staff from a private dental institution participated in this study. A self administered, 12 item questionnaire was circulated among the non-teaching staff. Only completely filled forms were taken into account for analysis by using SPSS software version 23 with Pearson Chi square test method.Results: The final analysis was done using responses from 89 non-teaching faculties. On the whole, knowledge regarding COVID-19 was found to be moderate among these no-teaching staff. Conclusion: This study shows a baseline knowledge regarding this pandemic. Even though the participants had fair knowledge, their attitude towards answering the questions was good.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Kabasura kudineer is a concoction prepared as a siddha product which is effective against respiratory infection (1). It is made with the use of 15 herbs which includes ginger, clove, Piper Longum, Dusparsha, Akarakarabha, Kokilaksha, haritaki, Malabar nut, ajwain, Kusta, guduchi, Kalamegha,Raja pata, musta and Bharani (2). Each and every ingredient has its own importance like ginger promotes digestion and helps in treatment of respiratory ailments (3), Pippalli can treat indigestion, asthma and cough, clove helps to kill bacteria and promote liver health etc. Thus the aim of the study is to analyze the knowledge and awareness on the role of Kabasura kudineer on immunity among the adult population. Materials and methods: Self-administered structured questionnaires were designed based on the knowledge and awareness of the role of Kabasura kudineer on immunity among adults. The questionnaire was distributed through online google forms link, the study population included 100 dental students in Chennai.The data was collected and statistically analysed in SPSS of version 26.0.The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board. Results: Majority of 19 year old (52%) individuals had responded whereas 35% of 17 year old respondents among them nearly 97% were females and 88% were aware of kabasura kudineer. It was appreciable that 83% of respondents were aware that kabasura kudineer was a siddha formulation and only 50% were aware it was administered as concoction among whom 78% of individuals knew that it is a perfect remedy for respiratory ailments. Majority (52%) respondents were aware about the herbal ingredients used. Conclusion: Thus majority of adults were not aware about the properties of Kabasura kudineer. More awareness programmes have to be done to make Kabasura kudineer a prophylactic agent world wide.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 created an abnormal scenario worldwide, altering the integral dynamics of medical dentistry. This KAP survey was carried out to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practices among dental students regarding the use of pre-procedural mouthwashes. An online questionnaire based cross-sectional study was conducted from 1st July to 12th July 2021, among undergraduate and postgraduate dental students of Saveetha Dental College. The survey form consisted of 12 questions, which were circulated among the participants and the responses were subjected to statistical analysis. The data was imported and analyzed through SPSS software. 70.6% of the participants were aware that Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the dental setting commonly by means of respiratory droplets and aerosols throughout a dental procedure.Within the limitations of the study, there is adequate knowledge regarding preprocedural use of mouthwash that can effectively reduce the bacterial viral load in dental aerosols. © 2022. ABSTRACT

Background Respiratory disorders are diseases of the airways and other structures of the lungs. Coronavirus disease ( COVID) is a respiratory disorder caused by coronavirus ( SARS COV-2). It was first identified in Wuhan, China in 2019 and it shows symptoms similar to other respiratory disorders. Aim To assess the problems faced by people with respiratory disorders during corona pandemic. Objectives People with respiratory disorders are more vulnerable to COVID. Hence, there is a need to find the various problems faced by them during the COVID pandemic and create awareness and provide preventive measures to them. Materials and method A cross sectional study was conducted among the general population. The study was conducted as a questionnaire based survey. The responses were recorded and the data was entered in Microsoft Excel and transferred to SPSS software-version 23 for statistical analysis. Chi square test was performed to compare two different variables. Results Statistically significant results were observed between age and the question - Are all people with respiratory disorders aware that they are vulnerable to COVID?", -Are people with respiratory disorders mentally stressed during the corona pandemic?", -Are people with respiratory problems neglected by their family to prevent them from COVID?", -Is wearing a mask a problem among people with respiratory problems?" and -Do they face difficulty in consulting a doctor during emergency situations?" Conclusion The present study concluded that awareness about the problems faced by people with respiratory disorders is necessary to protect them from COVID.

ABSTRACT

Background: The pandemic Covid-19 has affected the whole world drastically. Social distancing measures were implemented by all the countries. In order to practice social distancing, most governments had temporarily closed all the educational institutions. Traditional face to face learning was switched to online learning not to compromise on a student's academic progress. The aim of this study is to observe the impact of online classes on the mental health of school students during covid-19 in Chennai. Materials and Methods: A survey was conducted which was cross sectional. A self administered questionnaire was distributed among school students using an online platform google forms and 120 students participated in the survey. Data was collected and analysed by using SPSS software. Pearson Chi square was done to correlate the gender and mental illness of the participants. Results: 43.33% felt that online classes were stressful. 54.17% of the participants were satisfied with this mode of learning. Female students were more stressed than male students which were not significant. Nearly 45% of female students were not satisfied with this mode of learning which was not significant. It was found that female students were more depressed than male students. However, statistically it is not significant (p = 0.06). Conclusion: Based on this study, about 49.16% of the participants were impacted mentally and are stressed because of online learning and it has also affected their academic performance during this pandemic situation. This study may help them to know stress levels and be aware to take steps to overcome the stress and increase their academic performance.
